The Rt. Hon Lord Michael Howard, Patron of the BCCC, arrived in Saint Lucia this evening at the start of a 4 day working visit to the Island, the first since his appointment at the head of the organisation last year.
Lord Howard was Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition in the United Kingdom and led the Conservative Party into the 2005 General Election against Tony Blair.
Prior to that Michael Howard served in various ministerial posts, including one of the great offices of State, as Home Secretary. He was also Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer. Lord Howard is a member of the Privy Council and a lawyer by profession and QC.
He was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in 1964, after graduating from Cambridge University (Peterhouse), where he was President of the Cambridge Union Society in 1962.
Lord Howard arrived at Cap Estate Sunday evening, where he will be staying at the home of Chamber President, John Kennedy and is accompanied by a delegation of senior officers and investors from Great Britain. The Chief Executive, Dr Ian Kelly and Deputy-Chief Executive, Pauline Wade are travelling with Lord Howard.
An intensive round of meetings will take place with officials, investment bodies and political leaders from both the government and opposition parties.
