Castries, February 23, 2016 – Saint Lucian soca artiste and reigning Soca Switch King Marley “Mongstar” James has opened his 2016 Carnival season with two new releases. The first is “Straight Outta Saint Lucia” – a patriotic homage to his country and people that continues a tradition he began with “Saint Lucia We Love” in 2012 and continued with “Nationality” (2013) and “Bad On De Road” (2014). The second release teams Mongstar with Jonathan “Jay Budz” Mathurin and is called “Still I Rise”.
For “Straight Outta Saint Lucia” Mongstar continued the working relationship with Aimran Simmons and his Studio No XCitement he began in 2015 with “Revellers Song” and “We Getting On”. This new song is designed to conjure feelings of patriotism and pride by asking listeners to boldly state and represent where they are from.
Similarly, with “Still I Rise” Mongstar teams up with a known collaborator in Jay Budz with whom he last worked with on the 2012 song “Rattle-la”. And while some things have changed since then, a lot remains the same, most especially the bond between these musical brothers who in this new release tell a tale of overcoming personal hardship through focus, determination and spiritual strength.
Music, like life is a journey. Now in his seventh year as a professional artiste, Mongstar is taking stock of where he has been and where he is trying to go. It is the reason for the “return to his roots” both on theme in “Straight Outta Saint Lucia” and people on “Still I Rise”. He hopes his fans and the general public will continue to walk the path with him.
