Castries South East MP, Guy Joseph, has asserted that IMPACS is a creation of Prime Minister Doctor Kenny Anthony.
Joseph made the statement during a news conference of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) today, asserting that the people of Saint Lucia and the media should never “miss out on this fact.”
The former Communications and Works Minister declared that the accusations of extra judicial killings would have happened between 2009 and 2011.
“If there was an issue, if the US government and the international community had so many concerns, why did it only surface when the labour party got into office and almost two years after they were in office we saw action being taken?” Joseph said.
According to him, it was a clear indication that something was done by the labour party that triggered a reaction from the international community.
“We hear the accusations made by the persons within the labour party and more so by the leader himself in trying to link IMPACS to the actions of the United Workers Party,” Joseph declared.
He said he was not aware that anyone in the UWP ever said they saw a “hit list.”
“I was in government and I never saw a hit list,” Joseph told today’s news conference.
He recalled that Doctor Kenny Anthony, then in opposition, claimed to have seen such a list.
The former Minister expressed the view that Anthony should have been the lead provider of evidence for the IMPACS investigation.
Joseph said of Anthony:
“Did he ever appear before the IMPACS investigation? Did they question him on the things which he alleged that he saw?”
The Castries South East MP accused Anthony of being a careless and irresponsible Prime Minister who continues to feel that everyone in Saint Lucia is foolish and he is the only wise person on the Island.
“So he can talk nonsense when he wants and he thinks that people will just take it and not question him,” Joseph observed.
He said he knows that when the UWP gets into office Anthony will have to testify.
Joseph accused the Prime Minister of running away from answering questions related to the Rochamel matter by hiring lawyers.
He said Anthony has landed Saint Lucia not in hot water, but boiling oil.
“This country is burning up and very soon people will not even be able to live here as freely as they want,” Joseph asserted.
