Sea Jays Swim Club Declares Swim Camp a Success

This past independence weekend the Sea Jays Swim Club held its first annual three (3) day Swift Swim Camp at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Center.

In attendance were almost thirty swimmers to include Sea Jays swim club, and other swimmers from local swim clubs. The swimmers were put through rigorous pool and cross fit training sessions, aimed at enhancing their swimming skills and technique.

The participants were treated to lecture presentations from Ms. Azelia Glace, who spoke on the importance of nutrition in athlete development, along with meal planning advice. Dr. Segun Tobias highlighted the main injuries experienced by swimmers, and its prevention. Along with Dr. Tobias, Kim Jackson, Physiotherapist, spoke about the importance of posture and stretching for athletes among other things. On the final day of the camp, the featured speaker, Mr. Brian Louisy, President of the St. Lucia Volleyball Association, delivered a dynamic motivational lecture, and encouraged the swimmers to continually strive for excellence and improve on their skills in the sport of swimming.

Coaches Brian Charles and Norm Barnfield, who have a wealth of experience in the training of competitive swimmers and have together achieved many successes, were able to offer invaluable swimming video analysis and stroke technique instruction, along with intensive cross fit training. The swimmers’ responses were overwhelmingly positive, and the camp was enjoyed by all in attendance.
