Permanent Secretary in the Department of Finance, Dr. Reginald Darius will soon assume the position of Director of the Economic Policy Division at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, UK. In this position, Dr. Darius will be responsible for providing strategic advice to the Commonwealth Secretary-General on issues of sustainable economic development, particularly in international finance, international and regional economic co-operation, small States, and economic management.
Dr. Darius will bring to this position a first-hand understanding and appreciation of the development challenges of Small Island Developing States. Therefore, his appointment represents a positive development for Saint Lucia and the wider Caribbean Community.
Dr. Darius assumed the position of Permanent Secretary in the Department of Finance in August 2012. He brought to the position extensive knowledge and experience in macroeconomic and fiscal policy. Prior to assuming the position of Permanent Secretary, Dr. Darius held the position of Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund. Dr. Darius holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Warwick, and a Masters Degree (Economics) from the University of Cambridge and he has published papers in a number of international journals in the areas of fiscal and monetary policy, exchange rate regimes and unemployment.
