The leader of the opposition, Doctor Gale Rigobert, has requested clarity from the government on Washington lawyers whom the Prime Minister said had been “engaged” to represent this country in discussions with the State Department on the IMPACS matter.
Prime Minister Doctor Kenny Anthony made the disclosure in his New Year address.
He did not identify the Washington law firm.
The leader of the opposition, addressing a news conference yesterday, said Anthony had sought legal counsel to reverse the very things he had brought upon this country.
“We are now having to source external intervention to bring to Saint Lucia what we were before,” Rigobert asserted.
She raised questions about the cost to Saint Lucia of hiring the firm of Washington lawyers, adding that the people of Saint Lucia need to know what is happening.
“Who is paying this bill? How much does it cost the nation? Is this going to be another burden on taxpayers? Could not that money have better been spent to address social ills?”
According to Rigobert, taxpayers cannot continue to finance the mismanagement of the current labour administration and meet legal bills incurred by the current administration because of its own mismanagement.
