SLP celebrates women and women’s issues

Women and women’s issues will be the highlight of the Saint Lucia Labour Party’s platform at a public meeting scheduled for today, March 10, 2016, at 7:30pm, in the town of Gros Islet.

The meeting will be addressed by Guest Speaker, Mrs. Thecla Deterville, founder and Managing Director of Celestial Self Development Centre. Mrs. Deterville is a motivational speaker, Human Resource, Business and Management Consultant, a Former President of the Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and has a wealth of knowledge and experience as a senior manager and director.

She will bring her experience and her training to the platform, to celebrate, inspire and motivate the Women of Labour.

Deputy Chairperson of the Saint Lucia Labour Party, Mrs. Virginia Poyotte, as well as Communications Director, Mrs. Jadia Jn. Pierre-Emmanuel are also expected to address the meeting with a focus on the empowerment of women through trade union representation and support and the empowerment of the youth and women through the provision of opportunities, respectively.

Hon. Emma Hippolyte, Parliamentary Representative for Gros-Islet and Hon. Alvina Reynolds, Parliamentary Representative for Babonneau will also speak at tonight’s meeting.

Collectively, they will speak on the Government’s response to issues affecting women, initiatives of the Saint Lucia Labour Party to empower women and they will renew their pledge to continue to be model women all citizens of Saint Lucia can look up to.

Whereas the platform has been dedicated to women, Political Leader, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony will end with his tribute to the Women of Labour and Saint Lucia.


All are invited to attend the meeting and show support to what many have described as a historic undertaking.


This public meeting is one of several initiatives organized by the Saint Lucia Labour Party, in celebration of International Women’s Day, 2016
