Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony has expressed his shock and sadness at the deadly events which took place this week in Brussels, Belgium.
In separate but related incidents, more than 30 people were killed and scores more injured in bomb attacks at Brussels international airport and a city metro station.
Prime Minister Anthony has issued a statement on behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, standing in solidarity with the people of Belgium, and with the international community, and condemning the perpetrators of these attacks in the strongest possible terms.
Dr. Anthony has denounced those responsible for the explosions that have rocked not just Belgium, but the world.
He noted that coming so soon after the Paris attacks of November 13, 2015, it is more important than ever for right-thinking members of the global fraternity to be mindful of the importance of collaborating on matters of security.
The Prime Minister confirmed that to date no Saint Lucian nationals resident in Brussels have been reported amongst those directly affected by the bombings. Saint Lucia and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States are represented in Brussels by Her Excellency, Dr. Len Ishmael. In Saint Lucia, the Kingdom of Belgium is represented by His Excellency, Mr. Guy Sevrin.
Saint Lucia and the Kingdom of Belgium first established diplomatic relations 36 years ago, in 1980.
