Oliver Gobat Sports fund to donate money

The Oliver Gobat Sports (TOGS) Funds was set up by the Gobat family, in memory of their third son, known by many as “Ollie” who was tragically murdered almost 2 years ago on 25th April 2014.

To date, no one has been apprehended for this crime but his legacy and passion for St. Lucia and various sports lives on through the Fund, which will assist young St. Lucian citizens, to pursue and achieve their sporting goals.

A golf event was held last year in the United Kingdom to raise money and also last Saturday, 19th March, 2016, the first “Ollie Gobat Golf Memorial Tournament” was held at the St. Lucia Golf Club.

Led by Ben Gillmor, the day was a huge success and raised over $35,000.

This was achieved with a contribution from green fees, the auction and raffles held after the tournament at the Gobat’s house in Cap Maison and the many generous local sponsors: The Landings, photographer Alan Newman, web developer Chris Gardiner, graphic designer Jo Boxill, Mike Green, Cap Maison Resort, Le Sport, St Lucia Distillers, EY, Sugar Beach, CPL, Belvoir Estates, M&C Home Depot, Anitanja Jewelry, TiKaye, St James Club, Big Chef, Capella, Dive St Lucia, Harbor Club, Face to Face, Illuminesse, Buzz, Elena’s, Zaika, Rituals, Spinnakers, Lazy Lagoon, Heineken, Sea Spray Cruises, Carnival cruises, Jus Sail and Digicel, Courts Optical, who supported the event.

The fundraising tournament was over-subscribed, and included promising young golfers as well as adults.

Some of the big winners at the tournament included Dr. Popovic one of the oldest golf players in St. Lucia, who won the event with his partner for the day, John Crutchlow.

A special ceremony will be held to distribute the funds raised at the tournament to various sports associations in St Lucia on Saturday 2nd  April, 2016.

Ollie was passionate about fitness and sport, and would want the fund to help young people of all ages and abilities, where government and sporting associations are unable to assist on their own. Ollie was born in St. Lucia and loved the country of his birth.

He spent the past 10 years of his life promoting the island and made a significant contribution to the successful completion of The Landings.

As a family we too share this passion and believe that participation in sport offers many benefits and can help develop:

  • Constructive use of energy in growing youths
  • A sense of self-esteem, achievement and self-discipline
  • Teamwork
  • Responsibility and avenue for career development
  • An understanding of health and fitness, and a fit body
