The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has renewed calls for the resignation of Mrs. Fortuna Belrose as head of the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee and Vice President of the regional body.
The SLP has dismissed as ridiculous, Belrose’s claim that “the IOC has no restrictions on persons being involved in the political landscape or the elective politics within their country” and that her decision to contest elections while she is President of SLOC is welcomed.
According to the oath of the International Olympic Committee Charter, all members are bound to keep “free from any political or commercial influence.”
It is clear that there is a written policy and expectation that does not support Mrs. Fortuna Belrose’s response.
Therefore, the SLP calls on Belrose to do the right thing and rid the SLOC of her partisan influence. She must therefore resign with immediate effect.
