Five injured in accident

Five persons were injured in a motor vehicle accident last night at Rockhall.

The five were aboard a pickup van heading from a meeting at the constituency office of Castries East MP, Philip J.Pierre, to another meeting.

A crowd soon gathered as news of the incident spread.

“We had a meeting at a girl’s home and while we were there they called Mr. Pierre and tell him Karen and them in an accident, so we left and when we came we saw the people,” an eyewitness who identified herself as Francesca Esnard, told the Times.

According to her, one male individual was under the vehicle.

Esnard explained that the occupants of the vehicle in the accident were on their way to the gathering where she and others, including the Castries East MP, already were.

It is reported that the vehicle lost power as it climbed Rockhall, rolled backwards, slammed into three other vehicles parked on the side of the road and capsized.

Sub Officer Albert of the Saint Lucia Fire Service told the Times that when he arrived on the scene he saw a four door vehicle lodged against a parked vehicle.

“My understanding was that it was going up and the guy lost control, colliding with the parked vehicles,” Albert explained.

He said the injured were assessed, treated and transported to Victoria Hospital.

The Fire Service official disclosed that three persons were transported via ambulance and two by private means.

It is reported that the five comprised three women and two men.

Albert said the Fire Service responded with two fire trucks and two ambulances.

Castries East MP,Philip J. Pierre, was on the scene.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 PM.
