Two men have been held by the police in connection with an investigation into rape and kidnapping incidents in Vieux Fort.
Reliable sources have told the Times that the men are in their twenties.
The two are reported to have been arrested in Sarrot yesterday.
They were detained in the belief that they could assist the police with their investigations into several incidents in Vieux Fort in the past few weeks.
In one of the incidents, two men forced their way into a vehicle in which Courts Saint Lucia employee – Francis Cyrillien and a female companion were sitting in Vieux Fort last month.
The armed men forced Cyrillien to drive towards Bois Chadon beach where the couple were robbed of cash and valuables.
Cyrillien was attacked with a cutlass and tied to a tree.
He later succumbed to his injuries.
His female companion who had been stripped naked and also tied to a tree, managed to free herself after the attackers left and raised an alarm.
In another incident, a man and a woman were attacked by two men as they sat in a vehicle near the Vieux Fort Mall.
The man was was tied up and bundled in the trunk of the vehicle while the woman is reported to have been raped.
Subsequently, a man in his fifties was attacked by two armed men, robbed of his cash and valuables and tied to a tree.
His vehicle was later found near the old runway in Vieux Fort.
It is suspected that the attacks were all carried out by the same two criminals.
