The leader of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP), Allen Chastanet, has told party supporters that Soufriere represents the best hope for tourism development in Saint Lucia.
Chastanet, a former Tourism Minister, was addressing a political meeting of the UWP last night in the community.
He recalled that some four years ago as the UWP candidate for Soufriere, he had set forth a clear vision as to how the constituency could be developed to take full advantage of its tourism potential.
Chastanet lost his bid to become the MP for Soufriere when he was defeated by Harold Dalsan.
The UWP leader said the Sulphur Springs have not been developed.
He criticized the state of the Humming Bird beach project and the condition of some of the roads in Soufriere, asserting that the ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party has no vision for the constituency.
The UWP leader declared that should his party be victorious at the next elections, as Prime Minister he will see to it that Soufriere receives the same attention and priority as if he were the MP for the area.
He promised to work to ensure that the potential of Soufriere is realized and the people of the constituency get an opportunity to participate equitably in the economic and social development of Saint Lucia.
