Brown considered suicide after Rihanna assault

Chris Brown says he considered suicide after assaulting then girlfriend Rihanna before the Grammys in 2009.

In a trailer for his new documentary Welcome To My Life, the R&B singer says their relationship was “like a fantasy” but he felt like a monster afterwards.

“I went from being on top of the world, number one songs and kind of being like America’s sweetheart to being public enemy number one,” he says.

Chris Brown was sentenced to five years of probation following the assault.

It ended last year after a judge said the star had completed all his requirements and officially closed the case.

In the trailer – which shows cameo appearances from the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Usher, Mike Tyson, Jamie Foxx and Rita Ora – Chris Brown says they felt “like real-life rock stars” but that he messed it all up.

“I wasn’t sleeping. I barely ate. I was just getting high,” he admits.

Chris Brown’s mother, Joyce Hawkins, also makes an appearance to talk about how she felt about the assault charge at the time.

“That was the worst day of my life and probably of his life,” she said. “I felt like I was going to lose my child.”

The trailer for the documentary covers the singer’s rise to fame and the consequences of growing up in the limelight.

His mum said he didn’t have a normal upbringing, which may have led to some of his problems.

“He grew up so fast, he didn’t really get to have a childhood or the teenage life of a normal person.”

But Brown finishes the trailer on a positive note saying he’s in a good place again now.

“If there was ever a doubt in your mind Chris Brown was done, he’s finished… I wouldn’t bet on it.”
