Teenage girls raped in Castries

Teenage girls raped in Castries

Two teenage girls are reported to have been raped in Castries on Friday evening.

According to interviews conducted by DBS Television, four teenagers – two males and two females were heading home after an evening of Jazz, when they were attacked by three men, one of whom was toting a gun.

The incident occurred in the Derek Walcott square after 7:30 PM, where the foursome, none of them older than seventeen, had stopped to talk amid the tents that had been set up for jazz.

“After a while a guy passed- he had on a black cap and a red polo shirt, and he told us he was just passing,” a youth who was part of the foursome told DBS Television.

“He asked us if we were having sex under the tent,” the young man recalled, adding that they responded by telling the stranger that they were not and merely having fun.

The youngster recalled that there were two other men with the stranger.

He said the men left.

However the young man said that about forty five minutes later the gunman and his companions reappeared.

He stated that as he stood up, the gunman hit him in the head with the firearm.

“In the knock I got on my head I was out for a while,” the victim recounted.

“He forced us to have sex with them (the girls) before he had sex with them,” he said of the gunman.

The young attack victim said that while the gunman took the lead, his two companions stayed back.

“After he said something like ‘Is if they will find me’,” the young man recounted.

He said the gunman was very muscular and dark skinned, about 6 feet tall.

The young attack victim said while the gunman was having sex with the teenage girls, his two accomplices stood in the background.

They assailants later left.

The teenager said that after the incident the foursome went to the Police and made a report, after which they went to the hospital.

The victim disclosed that just nearby there were about twenty people speaking loudly, but they were oblivious to what was happening in the Derek Walcott Square.

“To be honest, I feel very bad. I feel like I cannot do what I want in Saint Lucia anymore – I cannot walk as I want, I cannot  cool out as I want because the place getting so dangerous; people doing so many things,” he said.

The young man said the teenage girls were hurt and crying after the incident.

“One of them lost their virginity,” he said, adding that the young woman sat on the ground crying and had to be lifted.

All four victims of Friday’s incident attend secondary schools on the Island.

I think this comment is pure nonsense (Kenny & Chastanet). We need to have more police presence and also people need to understand that this is no longer sweet St Lucia. We have to be more vigilant in this time. These animals who raped the young girls need to be dealt with, We have to watch our backs and be more street smart. If someone approaches you asking if you having sex according to the young man, that’s a red flag and time to leave. I am really sorry for what happened. These animals should be shot on sight “No human rights for RAPISTS”.

I dont think “ms” is blaming them, come people read and understand.

“ms” it was a RED flag and time to leave.

I agree with that entirely, “ms” has a point because after reading the article and before reading the comments thats exactly what I thought, why stay in that area.

And am not attributing blame on the teenagers at all.

Hope they get some professional counseling.

I guess Kenny and chastanet are the penis and balls of all these rapists who insist on going where they’re not wanted. You know what causes rape? People. People who with no political affiliation, decide to STEAL someone’s peace. All on their own. By their own thoughts. Stop making every shit political and read a flipping book.

why cant they be out at that time . it was not the dead of the night and they were in a group 2 males and 2 females. isn’t that what they teach you as a mean to protect yourself.. stay with a group. these criminals are becoming braver and attacking a group of people. Sad i feel so sorry for they young people who had every right to be there socializing. I despise it when people try to put some fault on the victims like y were they there, why didn’t they just go home. Think of the victims when you make these comments . Most times they blame themselves and you just making them feel worse about the whole situation.. The rapist and his accomplices were wrong full stop . no ifs, ands or buts and the victims did not do anything that they should not be doing

Y would the gunman force the boys to have sex with the girls first. This story is fishy. The police needs to start with the boys to corroborate their story . check for inconsistencies. This story about them sitting in the tent sounds suspect

My neighbour is a single parent of 5 girls, the eldest is 16. By 6pm she makes sure ALL her children are home, and woe betide the straggler child. I have heard her give violent tongue lashings to anyone who comes home late. Things seem to be going well lately as I have not heard her yelling at them. I commend her for running a tight ship and wish more parents could be as vigilant. Mind you, she spares the rod, but she spares no vocal tirade on her “cubs”.

After the revolutionary takeover in Cuba, the Castro regime closed all schools for some time and had senior students go on a literacy campaign, which, as we all know now, was hugely successful. With the state of things in Lucia as far as crime and safety and public misconduct and corruption and other negatives that sully the face of this once-upon-a-time paradise, I strongly propose that we shut down for some time—say 3 to 6 months in the first instance—and undertake to do general repairs. The details can be worked out by the National Vision Commission, with input from established churches and selected corporate entities. Sounds irregular? Revolutionary? Costly? It’s a case of either or.

I was on the square that same day around that time with my friends walking about ………there were no tents. We left there minutes to nine . There were no signs of persons being raped or gunmen. I can’t understand this. The timing is probably wrong ir the date. Because this could not have been the case.

First off ORC should not be put back in effect, but anyway not putting blame on the victims but for one students should not be out that late, even if they were in a group a gun has a round of bullets not one. Also the story does sound incomplete maybe out of fear he is holding back but it does sound a little suspicious.

It is so very sad. St. Lucia is in a deep mess and it seems from the fact that the country is rudderless, directionless and every one basically is on their merry own way.

That these two ‘victim’ boys feel they can sell that story is an indication of how even they at their young age can feel they can fool the nation.
Well the prime minister himself has opened the gate since he says there are SERIAL rapists around. He was not thinking. So had the police confirmed that ? Have we seen any arrests? That’s when politics is brought into this whole thing and is overriding what should have been proper police investigations on this whole rape crisis. So the two ‘victim’ boys and even the girls, complicit they maybe, are all taking their cues from Dr. Anthony’s bold statement.

This country is in serious need of leadership and guidance. St. Lucia is on a fast train to no where.

Action for our men and boys NOW! Let’s rethink maleness and manhood. Let’s stop with tje “real man” bullsh*t and the biblical ownership of women’s bodies. Centuries of church-led morality ain’t working for us. Let’s teach the youth to respect the rights of others, teach them self-control and anger management, the interconnection of our lives and social responsibility. ‪#‎bethechange. Each of us is different, because those YOUNG men didn’t act like James Bond or Jason Bourne, does not mean they are culpable. The very fact that people are questioning the rape because of the acts they were forced to perform is why the rapist may have done it.
It may also confuse a rape kit/DNA evidence. Being a rapist doesn’t mean he’s not smart enough to take counter measures. For the doubters, have you ever had a gun held to you; wondering how fast is a bullet can travel between you shouting and them shooting? This victim-blaming only helps rapists and criminals. They must be happy right now.

my take is that maybe these youngsters were having sex when the perpetrator caught them in the act; and decided to take his share. These things happen. the youngsters are young children and may not have known how to respond when a gun is in their face. If they were having sex or already engaging in the sex acts when the perpetrators interrupted their act , then how would they explain to their parents that we were already having sex when they were ambushed. The trouble is the story is inconsistent to when the consented sex acts began and when did the rape occurred. The girls should give their side.
