UWP launches Castries East Candidate Fortuna Belrose

CASTRIES, Saint Lucia –Tuesday, May 10, 2016 – On Sunday, 15th May, 2016 the United Workers Party will officially launch one of its female candidates, Castries East Candidate Mrs. Cathelina Fortuna Belrose. This event will take place at the Entrepot Playing Field (Near the Entrepot Secondary School) at 6:00 p.m.

Mrs. Cathelina Fortuna Belrose is a former public servant with 34 years of experience. She has worked across nine government administrations providing her with a deep understanding of how Government works and how to implement policy to effect positive change. She is a focused worker who is dedicated to whatever task she takes on.

She was appointed the first female Youth and Sports Officer within the Ministry of Community Development, Social Affairs, Youth and Sports in 1981. She has operated in the capacity of Permanent Secretary and Deputy Permanent Secretary in more than one ministry. Mrs. Belrose has also held many executive positions on several national committee/boards in both managing and directing capacities.

She is the current President of the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee and her track record of voluntary service is well known nationally and internationally. Fortuna has travelled extensively and attributes much of the person she is to her work and life around youth development and sports.

The addresses for the evening will be delivered by our dynamic female candidates and parliamentarians, political leader Allen Chastanet and other senior members of the party. The United Workers Party Women’s Arm will present its newly elected National Executive, coming out of its Convention held on Saturday 14th May, 2016. The newly elected President is scheduled to make a short address at Sunday’s event.

The UWP’s ultimate aspiration is to bring as many women as possible into the political process to give balance to our perspectives on education; family; health, particularly women’s health; social and economic development. A special invitation is extended to all women in the country.
