His Eminence, Cardinal Kelvin Felix will be in St. Lucia this Pentecost weekend to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee (60 years) of his priestly ordination.
The Cardinal was ordained a priest at the Roseau Cathedral in Dominica on the 8th April, 1956.
After his ordination he came to St. Lucia to celebrate his First Mass in the country where his father Major Edward Felix was Chief of Police.
A quarter century later, on the October 5, 1981 he was ordained Archbishop of Castries and served the people of St. Lucia for another 27 years until his mandatory retirement on the 15th February, 2008.
Jubilee celebrations were held in his native Dominica last month for the Cardinal, and a contingent of some thirty clergy, religious and lay persons from St. Lucia attended.
The highlight of the celebrations in St. Lucia this weekend will be a Solemn Pontifical Mass at the Minor Basilica on Pentecost Sunday, May 15th, at 4.00p.m.
In attendance will be the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Nicola Girasoli, Archbishop Robert Rivas O.P. , Archbishop Miguel Cabrejos and Bishop Antonio Santarsiero of Peru.
The public is invited to join in this public gesture of appreciation for 27 years of service to the people of St. Lucia.
