The ruling party’s endorsed candidate for Anse La Raye/Canaries, John Victorin, has been outlining a number of plans for the constituency.
Speaking this evening at his official launch, Victorin, spoke of a dedicated fire station for the constituency as part of improvement to community infrastructure, including roads and community centres.
“We will establish a farmers’ cooperative for the region which will see farmers benefit from a reduction in the cost of inputs and improve accessibility to markets,” he told Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) supporters.
He spoke of plans to position constituents to take advantage of employment opportunities through technical, vocational and soft skills training and the nurturing of a greater appreciation for education.
In addition, Victorin said land will be made available to residents for construction of their homes.
The SLP endorsed candidate told ruling party supporters that he believed in the SLP’s core philosophy of dispensing social justice.
He expressed confidence in the SLP’s willingness and ability to facilitate the harnessing of the Anse La Raye/Canaries constituency’s potential for positive community transformation.
But Victorin observed that community transformation cannot be restricted to the purview of government.
He said it must also be underpinned by the embrace of a spirit of service.
Victorin described it as a willingness to find meaning in something greater that oneself.
Earlier he seemed overwhelmed, appeared to be experiencing difficulty in presenting his speech and requested a drink of water.
Victorin shortly thereafter aborted his presentation but returned to the podium afterwards .
“The body just gave up on me. It was not a case of mere nervousness,” he explained as he returned to start over his presentation, which he continued to the end.
Victorin will come up against Dominic Fedee of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) in the battle for the Anse La Raye/Canaries seat in the next elections.
