A small group of placard-bearing young men yesterday staged a protest against the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) candidate for Castries North, John Charlery.
The protest was staged near the La Clery playing field.
The youths accused the SLP candidate of broken promises.
“He not giving us no money nothing – he not giving us no work. Certain people he checking for, he not checking for we down here,” one of the protestors told the Times.
He said the protest was intended to get Charlery to come to hear what they had to say.
“He not coming around and hear, he just passing each time he saying he coming back. He just checking for two or three persons,” the protestor asserted.
“He think we behind the money and is not that. He think we might take his money and not vote for him but we want better in the community.”
The Times tried unsuccessfully to contact John Charlery by telephone this morning for comment.
Charlery will be seeking to dethrone incumbent MP, Stephenson King, at the next general elections.
