UWP awaits outcome of recounts

The Chairman of the victorious United Workers Party (UWP), Guy Mayers, has disclosed that recounts will be taking place today of the votes in Castries South and Dennery North.

In Dennery North, Shawn Edward of the SLP (2,271 votes), won over the UWP’s Jimmy Henry (2,140), according to preliminary results.

The SLP’s Ernest Hilaire won 2084 votes in Castries South to the UWP’s Mary Isaac ( 2046).

Mayers told the Times that he wanted to congratulate all the UWP candidates.

“My only disappoint is that I had predicted 12-5 but for now we have 11-6. We have a recount in Castries South and Dennery North and I am just hoping that we can change things around in Castries South and bring home Castries South to make it the 12 -5,” the former National Security Minister said.

Mayers asserted that Saint Lucia wanted and had been advocating for change.

He said he was a “very happy” man.

However Mayers stated that the UWP now has to get to work to bring Saint Lucia back to where it ought to be.
