The Prime Minister of Barbados, Freundel Stuart, has sent a congratulatory letter to Saint Lucia’s new head of government, Allen Chastanet.
Chastanet’s United Workers Party won this country’s June 6, 2016 general elections by a margin of 11 to 6.
In his congratulatory letter, the Prime Minister of Barbados observed that the new Saint Lucia leader had been given a clear mandate.
Stuart offered his best wishes to Chastanet for a rewarding and productive term in office, according to Barbados Today.
He observed that Saint Lucia and Barbados have always enjoyed a longstanding and close friendship.
Stuart said he was committed to deepening cooperation between the sister Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member states, noting that Barbados and Saint Lucia already cooperate in a wide range of areas.
The Barbadian leader holds lead responsibility for the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.
He said he looks forward to interacting with Chastanet at the 37th Regular Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community in Guyana next month.
