Pierre recommended as opposition leader

Philip J. Pierre has been recommended by elected members of the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP), to become leader of the parliamentary opposition, well-informed sources have told the Times.

According to the sources, Pierre was unanimously recommended at a meeting of the SLP’s six elected members on Friday.

The Castries East MP is also the first Deputy Political Leader of the labour party.

On the night that the SLP lost the June 6, 2016 general elections, labour party leader and former Prime Minister, Doctor Kenny Anthony, announced that he would step down and would not be opposition leader.

Anthony formally resigned as SLP leader last week.

The move paves the way for a national council meeting of the party, where Pierre will be endorsed to succeed him, according to party insiders.

An open election will later take place for the position at the next SLP convention slated for later this year, according to information.

A formal letter informing the Governor General of the choice of opposition leader made by the SLP’s elected members has already been dispatched, the Times has been informed.

The SLP lost the last general elections by a margin of 11 to 6.

SLP never had open ELECTIONS before. They were all afraid of their supreme leader numero uno.
Now he is no longer interested in the party every body find their long lost voice.

Now you will confusion for leadership. Top favoured contender Hilaire sitting on his skin by 40 votes. Alva was macoing chastanet for the prime minister position now he have to watch his fight for leader of the party.

Well finally Pierre will have a life of his own to have his voice heard. He suffocated so long.

Yes, put this career politician as leader so that his master can slither through the back door, and become PM once more. Be vigilant Saint Lucians, be vigilant.

The SLP should look to rebuild. A bold move would be to select either Alva or Hilaire. Putting Mr. Pierre as opposition leader and / or leader of the SLP is retrogressive. SLP needs to change the perceived arrogant image and rebrand itself
