27-Jun-16– Team Saint Lucia is ready to capture the trophy for the Guinness Street Football Caribbean Championship, as Team Fantastic emerged as the winner of the Saint Lucian Finals.

Vieux Fort played host to the event which got underway a little after 5pm with all sixteen teams coming out in full force. Fantastic, a team who has represented Saint Lucia at past tournaments supplanted themselves as the team to beat from early on. The team pushed through the early rounds and advanced to the semi-final leg where they defeated local and reigning regional champions, Veterans, 1-0.

In the final match, Fantastic expertly demonstrated their superior skill and sheer determination, against ‘Can’t take your Cries’ scoring 1 goal to nil.

Adding to the excitement of the evening, the public came out in full force and repeatedly vocalized their support behind the competing teams.

“The communities came out to support the teams and I was very pleased with the turnout,” said Rohan Lovence, Guinness St Lucia Brand Manager. “All sixteen teams played extremely well but there could be only one winner and Fantastic proved last evening that they are indeed made of more. We move into Regional mode and judging by last evening’s play, Saint Lucia is in a very good position.”

Fantastic was awarded a prize of $6000, a trophy and a spot in the line up of the other regional teams.
