CSA President, Yvonne Edwin, has welcomed plans for a review of the labour code, announced this week by Labour Minister, Stephenson King.
“As the incoming President and having heard that persons have expressed that there is need for a review of the code, it was good news to hear coming from the new Labour Minister,” Edwin told the Times.
She welcomed King’s announcement that an expert from the International Labour Organization (ILO) will be coming here on July 13, to assist this country in addressing labour related matters.
“Given the expertise within that organization I believe it is something that not only Saint Lucia, but workers will benefit from,” Edwin asserted.
She said that the CSA is a member based organization representing workers and is happy that the Labour Minister will have the labour code, which she described as an important piece of legislation, reviewed.
The CSA President, asked to describe the current industrial relations climate in Saint Lucia, said it can be improved.
Edwin cited the need for additional dialogue and keeping the lines of communication open, with resulting positive benefits for workers in Saint Lucia.
