Fire Service concerned about violence

The Saint Lucia Fire Service has expressed concern about persons resorting to violence in public areas.

In a statement today, the SLFS explained that innocent citizens who are going about their daily lives can get caught in incidents of that nature.

According to the statement, such persons lose life or limb in that process.

The statement comes in the wake of Friday’s shooting incident on the Chaussee Road.

A man and a woman were wounded and had to be hospitalized when a lone gunman opened fire.

It appears that the man was the intended target of the shooter.

The woman was hit by stray bullets, according to reports.

The Fire Service dispatched two ambulances to the scene of the shooting.

The Fire Service has reported that it made a total of 76 ambulance responses on the weekend – 50 of them in the North of the Island and the others in the South.

Aside from responding to the Chaussee Road shooting, five cases of physical assault were recorded.

There were also three fire calls and four calls relating to motor vehicle accidents.

The Fire Service has called on citizens to settle disputes by lawful means.
