Sensitizing males to the ‘buddy’programme

PRESS RELEASE:- “We will do it again”. That’s how officials from the Department of Probation and Parole Services have summed up the recent success of two of their sensitization programmes for men.

The programmes took the form of a health discussion for men hosted by medical doctor Joachim Jimmy and a social session where men played dominoes and discussed their concerns with professional counterparts who helped them to address concerns including health and wellbeing, spirituality and parenting.

Officials say men seem to be evolving from the stereotypical persona that they are invincible, and are willing to accept help in dealing with personal issues. One of the organizers commented that men seem to be looking for avenues to share experiences and find solutions.

“We were really pleased to meet their expectations but they surpassed ours with their level of enthusiasm and participation. Definitely we will attempt to reach out to them again next year” one official said.  The two activities centered on the observance of Father’s Day in June.

On the heels of this success, the Department of Probation and Parole Services has set its focus on the Buddy Programme which is set to be rolled out later this month.

The Department of Probation and Parole Services is now calling on wholesome citizens to become mentors or to indirectly support the programme.

Persons wishing to become buddies should visit to the Department‘s offices in Castries or Vieux Fort to apply to become part of the Buddy Programme.
