Major industrial dispute referred to Labour Commissioner

The National Workers Union (NWU) has referred a major industrial dispute between WASCO and the NWU to Mr. Ray Narcisse, Labour Commissioner.

This decision is in keeping with the Grievance Procedure enshrined in the industrial agreement between the Water & Sewerage Company Incorporated (WASCO Inc.) and the National Workers Union (NWU).

At the core of this industrial impasse are serious, deteriorating occupational safety and health conditions which workers must face, length of service premium, adjustments within the existing pay structure and poor human resource skills consistently being displayed by WASCO Management.

The workers are indeed irate and hope that the Department of Labour will exercise a higher level of efficiency in dealing with a matter that should have been resolved by the previous regime.
