Members of the drumming group Tanbou Mele will join the Pierrot Youth , other members of the public youth from Vieux Fort North generally in a traditional drumming games night, at the Pierrot Parish Hall tomorrow Saturday evening from 7pm. The event is one of the activities to mark the 2016 observance of Emancipation and the Vieux Fort North Drumming Festival.
Hon. Moses Jn. Baptiste Parliamentary Representative for Vieux Fort North , the main organizer of the event indicates that the evening will feature games which were famous, during the days when electricity and electronic games were not with us.
Many of those games and activities have been lost and forgotten.
Tanbou Mele , a drumming group formed in 1987 , of which the MP is the leader, has compiled scores of those games and have held participatory sessions all around Saint Lucia over the decades.
The sessions are both learning opportunities and healthy fun.
The highlight of the Emancipation 2016 , drumming festival will be a lecture by Dr.Kentry Jn. Pierre on August 6th 2016 at the Belle Vue Human Resource Development Centre.
Dr. Jn. Pierre will focus on the impact of emancipation resilience in rural communities in Saint Lucia and the Caribbean. Local poets and drummers will also have their work on display.
