Martinique authorities are on the hunt for a suspected Jihadist of Moroccan descent, after he evaded house arrest.
According to Le Parisien, Moroccan authorities suspect the individual of being linked to al-Qaida leaders and helping them to spread their message via the internet.
It is reported that the man, identified as Rachid Rafaa, who had been under house arrest in the Martinique town of Morne-Rouge since May 15, 2014, evaded the authorities yesterday morning.
The police have appealed to anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact them.
Rafaa, according to reports, was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Morocco for conspiracy to commit terrorist acts.
However he has disclaimed terrorist links, claiming that the real reason for the Moroccan arrest warrant was related to his support for the cause of Western Sahara.
“He could be anywhere,” a Times source in Martinique said of the escaped Moroccan national.
It is reported that an investigation is currently underway into the escape.
