SCSS class of 1998 celebrate 18 year reunion

The Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School – Class of 1998 celebrated their 18th year reunion with a week of activities which commenced on Saturday 16th July, 2016 and climax with an epic Gala Dinner on Saturday 23rd July, 2016.

The activities organized by this group of resourceful young adults included a Church Service, Corporal Works of Mercy and other social events.

Their major event was the “Corporal Work of Mercy” held on Thursday 21st July 2016, where they took full responsibility of supplying items and preparing the dishes  to feed over 50 less fortunate persons in the community.  The Soufriere Soup Kitchen is an Initiative partnered with the St. Vincent DePaul Society, an instrument of the Catholic Church to care for the poor and needy daily.

This gesture touched and filled the hearts of the reunion group with joy and satisfaction. Consequently, they have decided to continue their efforts in assisting the Soufriere Soup Kitchen.  Additionally, they will be seeking assistance from the general public in Cash or Kind to further provide and improve the operations of the Soup Kitchen.

In the immediate future they will embark on a drive to supply much needed appliances and food items. The past students have pledged their commitment of time to assist the staff on a monthly basis to prepare lunch.

A heartfelt thanks to Mr. Percival MacDonald, Coordinator of the Soup Kitchen and his staff for their co-operation in helping to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.

Our Corporal Work of Mercy did not stop there. With the assistance of a few business places and individuals, we were able to donate two food hampers to two less fortunate families in the community. We also made a commitment to assist these families in the future.

We would like to express gratitude and appreciation to all the participants and donors for their assistance and contributions. We look forward to greater things in the future. It was a indeed memorable week.
