The National Initiative to Create Employment (NICE) in collaboration with the Ministries of Education and Youth and Sports will host the annual National Summer Program 2016 for primary and secondary school students throughout the island. The program will run for a period of two (2) weeks from August 02 to August 12, 2016.
The Summer camp provides a safe and fun learning environment where school children have been meaningfully engaged in a range of indoor and outdoor activities including lectures, art and craft, dance, sports, literacy, public speaking and cookery.
The programme focuses on the holistic development of students engaging them in personal development and enrichment activities covering four (4) broad areas: Life skills, Information Technology, Art & Craft, Culture and Sports. The summer program caters for school children from grade 1 at the Primary School level to form 3 at the Secondary School level and will be held the following at nine (9) locations around the island:
Gros-Islet Primary School, Ciceron Combined, Odsan Combined, Dennery Primary, La Ressource Combined, Mon Repos Combined, Reunion Primary School Grace Combined and Laborie Girls Primary School.
This year NICE will also collaborate with The Cultural Development Foundation to host three (3) additional camps, in Anse La Raye, Soufriere and Vieux Fort.
As with previous years, the National Summer Program will receive the human resource support needed to operate all of the camps from its existing pool of employees within the Ministry of Education. These persons are already employed under the Project as Principal Administrative Assistants, IT Assistants, Library Assistants and Auxiliary Staff. NICE welcomes any contributions from the private sector of towards the implementation of this year’s summer program.
NICE has, and will continue to collaborate with public sector ministries, private organizations and NGOs in an effort to achieve its objective of developing the countries human resource by providing sustainable employment.
