The media fraternity in Saint Lucia is mourning the death of Journalist, Raymond O’Keiffe.
O’Keiffe passed away in Martinique after a brief undisclosed illness.
Doctor Didacus Jules, the Director General of the Saint Lucia-based OECS Secretariat where O’Keiffe worked, told the Midday News edition of Radio Caribbean International (RCI) today that everyone at the workplace was stricken with grief at the passing.
“Raymond was one of those persons who was very enthusiastic about everything he did ,” Jules noted.
He recalled that the deceased encouraged everyone to participate in everything having to do with the OECS Commission.
“He was deeply passionate about OECS integration and was a major advocate for it,” the OECS Director General observed, adding that the radio programme O’Keiffe did – OECS Link, spoke to that passion.
Members of the local media have been paying tribute to the deceased.
Colleague, Glen Simon, said that the news of O’Keiffe’s death had hit the media very hard.
Simon said O’Keiffe was a mentor in many ways and a selfless individual.
He noted that the death gives media practitioners a chance to reflect on their own health care.
“Media persons constantly report on health issues – on issues that affect persons, but sometimes we do not pay attention to our own health issues,” he told RCI news.
In January this year, Sports Journalist, Brian Mc Donald collapsed and died.
