Jordanian nationals temporarily detained

A group of Jordanian nationals, including children, were detained in Saint Lucia shortly after arriving at the George F.L Charles airport, reliable sources have told the Times.

The group, said to number five, reportedly arrived here last night from Martinique aboard a Caribbean Airlines flight.

The Times was informed that the Jordanians did not possess valid visas.

As a result, the group was put up at a hotel under security provided by the airline, according to reports.

Late this afternoon there were reports that the Jordanians had been cleared and would be issued visas by the Immigration Department here.

In May this year, two Albanian men were detained at the George F.L Charles airport after they arrived here from Barbados without valid visas.

The men were reported not to have had tickets out of Saint Lucia.

One of them was identified as having been arrested in the United States eight years ago for human trafficking.

The Albanians, who created a scene at the airport,  were eventually put on a Liat flight  back to Barbados as the only passengers, under the escort of two police officers, a reliable source told the Times.

I thought if someone arrived here without the relevant documents, they would be detained and sent back to their country of origin. So how did they obtained Visas here to stay? Something isn’t right. A Brown-paper bag was given and Allen got another ‘5 to stay Alive Kit.”
