The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) on Monday, August 8, 2016, at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, 103 Old Hope Road. This agreement sets forth a framework for future collaboration in the areas of teaching and research between the Open Campus and the JCF.
The MoU reflects the commitment of both parties to create new pathways in building the institutional capacity of the JCF by ensuring that every police officer has access to tertiary education of the finest quality. It is expected that the partnership will not only assist the JCF in addressing police training needs, but will also open up new opportunities for the support of research-oriented initiatives which will include conferences, workshops, seminars and other joint efforts.
The Open Campus will offer academic leadership in the areas of programme and course development as well as provide the technological learning support and platforms in the teaching and delivery of professional programmes and courses. This positive development will help the JCF in its continued efforts to upgrade the training of the police and to keep abreast of emerging ideas and concepts in law enforcement.
