Nation News:– THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION has been given until September to respond to the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) or it will be seeking relief in the law courts.
Union president Pedro Shepherd said that since receiving correspondence from the Ministry of Education that about 700 teachers would have their pay docked after attending union meetings on April 26 and May 4, they have tried to have their issues properly addressed.
He said that since letters were sent out dated May 6, they met with the ministry as well as Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and outlined why they thought the docking should have been rescinded.
Shepherd said he had assumed the Prime Minister would have responded, but that has not been the case. –
