The ‘Dine Around Saint Lucia ‘ programme was officially launched last night by the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLHTA).
The event was hosted by Zaika The Taste Restaurant located at the Rodney Bay Marina Complex.
SLHTA Chief Executive Officer, Noorani Azeez, said the initiative seeks to present to guests an opportunity to visit one of sixteen different restaurants at discounted prices.
“It is all designed to get guests to come out, patronize and experience a variety of dining options available at restaurants,” Azeez disclosed.
He said about ten destination companies are actively selling the initiative to guests, while other restaurants have indicated an interest in the programme.
“It is extremely important – we have a situation in which we are looking to make the destination appealing to new and different guests and culinary art is an exciting way for Saint Lucia to invite guests to visit our shores,” the SLHTA official explained.
He said that Saint Lucian Chefs are doing exceptionally well at regional competitions and the ‘Dine Around’ programme is a natural evolution of the variety of offerings available locally.
Azeez asserted that culinary tourism is a “tremendous” niche that Saint Lucia can look at, as it does very well internationally.
He expressed the view that culinary tourism is an excellent complement to what Saint Lucia has to offer.
Azeez explained that the ‘Dine Around’ programme is also designed to strengthen the linkage between tourism and agriculture, as well as the food and beverage sector.
“Tourism offers the agriculture industry an exceptional opportunity annually to feed these guests who are coming here and spending an average of three to seven nights at our hotels,” he stated.
