In 2015, Digicel repositioned its Scholarship Programme from a one year, one time receipt to nominated students, to an extended five year scholarship providing students maintained an average of sixty-five percent pass rate at the end of each school year. Under this programme, staff members were given the opportunity to nominate hard working successful students from their community who were most deserving of a Scholarship from Digicel.  Digicel staff members will be required to accompany the students whom they have nominated to purchase their school supplies.

At the ceremony, the island’s top 2016 Common Entrance achiever, Arielle Mitchel was also presented with a special prize from Digicel’s Country Manager, Mrs. Siobhan James-Alexander of a brand new Samsung Tab E plus a Samsung Galaxy A3 smartphone.  Arielle, a former student of the Carmen Renee who will be moving on to the St. Joseph’s Convent attained the top score of 96.33% in the recently concluded Common Entrance Exams for 2016. Digicel’s cricket endorsees and brand ambassadors Johnson Charles and Daren Sammy were both in attendance to encourage and inspire the students and the wider audience. Johnson Charles shared a very profound message with the students during his delivery remarking “In everything you will do in life you must believe in yourself, don’t wait until the struggles of life get tough, start now; that way, when you are older you will be stronger and prepared for all that will come your way. I also encourage you to never take your education for granted, for everything in life education will be the foundation, even in sports. Truly make the best of this journey and best of success for the next four years.”

Digicel’s Country Manager Mrs. Siobhan James-Alexander, who also addressed the students congratulated them on maintaining their academic performances stated; “Digicel is elated to be celebrating with you all here today for the second consecutive year. We are extremely proud of you for your drive and commitment in working towards giving your best throughout the school year and we look forward to celebrating and rewarding you all every year to the end of your secondary school journey.” “We also deeply care about your holistic development as young people and we therefore encourage you to always strive to maintain a balance while at school. Be open to the opportunity of growth that surrounds you whether through sports, arts or any other extra-curricular activity that you enjoy. Balance is key in your life journey, the earlier you can learn to apply it the easier it will become. ” Mrs James further added.
