Alleged thief spared a beating

An alleged thief was spared a beating this week, when an official of the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School (CCSS),  intervened.

According to school officials, the man was one of two individuals who broke into the Principal’s office shortly after noon on Monday and stole several used text books.

One of the young men escaped, while another was caught and bound by persons at the school who caught him in the act.

According to information obtained by the Times, the persons who caught the alleged thief were about to give him a licking when a school official urged them not to.

The police were summoned and the young man was taken into custody, it is reported.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Gregory Michael Alexander, told the Times in response to reports of the  intervention that what the official did what was right.

Alexander disclosed that any citizen can arrest a person who is committing a crime or pursue that individual with a view to apprehending them.

He said the force that would be used in apprehending such an individual would be only what is necessary to subdue the person.

“After the person is subdued, you need to call the police,” the senior police official explained, adding that reasonable force relative to the situation is permissible.

However Alexander warned that a person who proceeds to harm a person who is caught committing a crime after the person has been subdued, commits an offence.

“After the person is subdued, there is no need to proceed to beat that person,” Alexander told the Times.

It’s Allen ( the Boy’s) fault. Allen’s Good Boys got caught in the act. Since Allen (the child) got in office, Crimes involving Thievery has gone up 2,000,000% . I guess he never got his ‘5 to stay Alive Kit,’ as promised.
This UWP Prime Minister is more concerned about taking his next trip on tax-payers Expense while the Poor Black UWP supporters stay languishing in Great despair with fading flaming dreams Lmbao

Goodness! That image is so, so wrong. The only difference between this and the Kunta Kente moment when he was being flogged for getting his name wrong is what this guy is wearing – a modern day Kunta but with a hat, a T-shirt and short pants. We have, without even being aware, taken on the role of “slave master”. The crime of theft pales looking at this very painful image.

Sorry to say your comments are truly off the mark and doesn’t make any sense at all no relevance to the article.

All I can see in that image is an individual tied up after being caught red handed stealing.

I bet if you caught him in your house stealing you would probably through hot water on him after subduing him.

the hell am i reading in the comments section here? how many times have we heard of robberies gone wrong where thieves end up injuring or even killing person in an attempt to get away? i do agree that if the person is subdued that they should not be beaten but lets be real here!! there were two jansport bags filled with books and a laptop donated by the government stolen from the staffroom and not the Principal’s Office as stated here. These guys were the same ones who broke int the nearby Sir Ira School so how much can they get away with?

Sorry Mr. Commissioner but if i catch one get ready to charge me cause he will surely get a flogging. i have been a victim of thieves too many times; want people to go work and they get paid..hmm. And by the way stop pretending like yal police officers are not happy when those guys get a butt wooping from the public, cause yal are well happy. If yal do it they will have too much to say about the police so i will do it for yal. Na paytay bondiey
