LA Swimmers Get Ready to Battle at Goodwill Swim Meet

PRESS RELEASE:– A challenging weekend lies ahead for team St. Lucia as they battle Trinidad, Barbados, Guyana and Suriname and guest team, the Bahamas in the XXII Goodwill Swim Meet from Friday, August 19th to Sunday, August 21st at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre (RHAC) in St. Lucia.

The five swimmers from the Lightning Aquatics (LA) Swim Club to join approximately 34 swimmers from various local clubs are Ethan Hazell, Karic Charles, Annaliese Gallaird, Naima Hazell and Naekeisha Louis while Yannick Lane will serve as a reserve.

The club also congratulates Akim Ernest, an unattached swimmer who has been training with LA for some time now for making the Goodwill team.

Just last month in preparation for Goodwill, team LA walked away with 3rd place with a total of 489 points at the Karen Beaubrun Swim Meet.

The team’s contingence of about 21 swimmers were able to cop the following awards: Annaliese Gaillard- 3rd place girls 8 & under; boys 8 & under – 2nd place- Karic Charles and 3rd place- Ethan Hazell; girls 10 &under 1st place –  Naima Hazell and 2nd place – Naekeisha Louis. Additionally, several other LA swimmers received the following awards – one 4th place, one 5th place, one 6th place, two 7th and one 8th place.

What is even more remarkable is that many swimmers achieved person best times. President, Tessa Charles-Louis, said “Lightning Aquatics has put on yet another spectacular performance at Karen Beaubrun, we are proud of all our swimmers.

Special congratulations also to Chloe Thomas for being one of the recipients of the 2016 Karen Beaubrun Awards. Chloe’s discipline and love for the sport is remarkable.” Additionally, Mrs. Louis said, “Congratulations to the 6 swimmers who earned a prestigious spot on the St. Lucia National Team and also to Akim Ernest, who has trained with us over the last few months, we know they will all represent with class and pride”.

Additionally, the club, in its usual endeavour to celebrate excellence surprised its swimmers who sat the Common Entrance Examination (CEE) with a certificate and cheque of EC$150. Congratulations to Britney Edwin, Aliyah Henry, Naekeisha Louis and Gabrielle Soomer, who will attend St. Joseph’s Convent and to Jeannot Walters and Steffy Clery who will attend Leon Hess Secondary School.

Congratulations also to Akim Ernest, who will be attending Castries Comprehensive School. Special mention must be made of Naekeisha who came 3rd on the island in the CEE. The LA swim club takes this opportunity to encourage students, especially those involved in sports to continue to strive for excellence in their academics, various sporting disciplines and in all other areas of their lives.
