Speak Out Saint Lucia (S.O.S) Communications Officer, Norbert Williams, wants the authorities here and particularly the police to address situations in which persons cover up incidents of rape.
S.O.S, which was officially launched in March this year, advocates on behalf of victims of sexual abuse, child molestation, incest and rape.
Williams spoke of situations that persons are well aware of in which parents, relatives and friends cover up and make arrangements that perpetuate crimes of rape against children.
“Very often the persons involved in these sexual assaults – these rapes committed against little children in our society, have been befriended and then subsequently after being discovered, pay off these families,” the S.O.S official asserted.
Williams called for persons who try to cover up crimes of rape after the fact to be sent to jail.
“We need to send a message out in Saint Lucia that these types of things will no longer be tolerated,” he told Newsspin on Radio Caribbean International (RCI), today.
Williams declared that despite all the publicity recently, nobody cares.
“People have been continuing with wild abandon preying on our children as if there is no law in Saint Lucia,” he asserted.
He observed that in Saint Lucia, too many sexual predators have been identified, taken in by the police and somehow released.
“Two days later we hear that they have skipped the country,” the S.O.S official told programme host – Timothy Poleon.
Williams observed that it was time that authorities here begin to send a very clear message to perpetrators that they will be sought after wherever they go.
He recalled recent reports of a school Principal here who was allegedly involved with female students.
The matter is currently under investigation.
Williams declared that the Principal is now allegedly in Texas.
“It is painful, it is frustrating to hear about another child in Saint Lucia becoming another victim of rape,” he said in reference to the story that the Times broke yesterday about a ten year old girl who was allegedly raped by a man said to be in his thirties.
