· Commonwealth Academic Fellowships in 2017

You may be interested to know that some former award holders can apply directly to the Commission for an Academic Fellowship in the UK. Commonwealth Academic Fellowships aim to assist the career development of recipients by providing an opportunity to undertake research as well as to network and to update knowledge and skills. Fellowships are for between three months and ten month’s duration and are tenable at any approved academic institution in the UK. As well as nominations for Fellowships being invited from universities in developing Commonwealth countries. The Commission also invites our doctoral Alumni who meet all our eligibility criteria to apply direct to us for an Academic Fellowship.

To be eligible to apply through this Alumni route, a Commonwealth doctoral scholar would need to have been awarded a PhD by a UK institution between two and ten years prior to October 2017. They would also need to be from an eligible Commonwealth country and currently employed as an academic in a university in an eligible Commonwealth country. The Commission requests a reference from the executive head of the employing institution as part of the application and this would need to confirm that leave will be given if a Fellowship should be awarded.
