Castries Mayor denies missing funds probe

Castries Mayor, Peterson Francis, has denied reports of an investigation into missing funds at the Castries City Council (CCC).

Saying he had not heard media reports about such a probe, Francis said there was absolutely no investigation currently ongoing at the CCC.

“I have no knowledge of that,” the Castries Mayor declared in a recent interview.

A DBS television report last week, quoting reliable sources, said that cheques totaling  $550,000 had been signed by former councilors even after a new council had been sworn in.

The news item said that an investigation had reportedly been launched into the preparation and the signing of the cheques without the knowledge of new council members who were sworn in on August 2, 2016.

The money reportedly went towards paying contractors for work done prior to the last general elections.
