USLOA announces new executive

TORONTO – September 1st 2016 – The Union of St Lucian Overseas Associations (USLOA) at its biennial convention held in Atlanta, GA from July 24th – 31st, 2016 has elected new officers to preside over the organization’s activities for 2016/2018.

Ross Cadasse, former Canada Trustee of the organization and current President of the St Lucia Toronto Association, will replace Bertram Leon as President. Mr Leon will continue to serve Ambassador at Large with specific responsibility for the Diaspora Policy.

Other new officers include:

Vice President: Sylvia Quinlan Mercia – St. Lucian Association of London (1963)

Secretary: Bernie Clery – St. Lucia Int’l. Association (SLIA)

Assistant Secretary: Cynthia Dhalia – St. Lucia Community of Barbados

Treasurer: Joe Mathurin – St. Lucia Toronto Association (SLTA)

PRO (newly established position): Debbie Melchor – St. Lucian Association of London (1963)

The following individuals were appointed to the role of trustee at the convention.

Caribbean – Luther Renee (St. Croix)

Canada – Margaret Daniel (Calgary)

USA – Cornelius Alfred (Georgia)

UK – Peter Matthew (UK).

In accepting his appointment as President Mr. Cadasse stated “I am truly humbled at the opportunity to serve you the membership of the USLOA. We are at the crossroads of our evolution and it is imperative that we work to ensure that we remain relevant to our member organizations. He further stated “One of our first goals is to ensure that the lines of communication with the new government are open and we are able to continue the work that has already been done on implementing a Diaspora Policy for Saint. Lucia.”

Founded 35 years ago, the Union of St Lucia Overseas Associations (USLOA) is a non-profit organization whose mandate is to develop programs to promote and enhance the quality of life for all St. Lucians, support our youth by nurturing and assisting in their development through educational and other opportunities, contribute financial support and other forms of benevolent assistance to the less privileged in Saint Lucia and to pursue arrangements and structures that ensure the effective representation of the interests of Saint Lucians within the Diaspora and in Saint Lucia
