Castries, Saint Lucia, Monday September 12, 2016:– Plans are steaming ahead for the hosting here of a CARICOM Reparations Baton Relay and Youth Rally to be held here at the end of October.
Planned for the end of Kweyol Heritage Month to be observed here throughout October, a National Preparatory Committee (NPC) is pressing ahead with plans for the two events.
Stakeholders on the Committee include the National Reparations Committee (NRC), the National Youth Council (NYC), the National Students Council (NSC), the Folk Research Centre (FRC), the Iyanola Council for Advancement of Rastafari (ICAR) and the Soufriere Action Theatre (SAT).
Also on the committee are representatives of government ministries, as well as the Saint Lucia CARICOM Youth Ambassadors.
Other stakeholders are also indicating interest and the NPC is inviting al who are interested to contact it.
The CARICOM Secretariat and the CARICOM Reparations Commission (CRC) are assisting the NRC and will be providing logistical and other support for the relay and rally, both of which are aimed at promoting the Reparations message in Saint Lucia’s popular indigenous language.
The relay will involve the official CARICOM Reparations Baton, which will end at the Youth Rally, where activities will be aimed at attracting the widest possible level of youth and students participation.
The events are also expected to be broadcast live here and to other Kweyol-speaking countries in the Caribbean and beyond, utilizing traditional, mainstream and modern social media platforms.
The NPC held its first meeting last Thursday, September 8, at the Office of the Prime Minister and the next is scheduled for Tuesday September 13th at 2.00pm at the same venue.
