Government of Saint Lucia Congratulates Mexico on 206th Anniversary

PRESS RELEASE:-Prime Minister Honourable Allen M. Chastanet has added his voice to the outpouring of congratulatory messages being sent by numerous nations to the Government and People of Mexico.

The country celebrates 206 years of Independence from Spain today Friday, September 16, 2016.

The island’s leader addressed a celebratory gathering on Thursday evening, (September 15, 2016) where he paid tribute to the relationship between Mexico and Saint Lucia, as well as the strides which have taken place under the leadership of His Excellency Luis Manuel Lopez Moreno.

Prime Minister Chastanet noted that Saint Lucia’s relationship with Mexico dates back to the island’s own attainment of Independence thirty-seven years ago. “Areas where we have collaborated and from which we have enjoyed the goodwill and generosity of the Government and People of Mexico include Education, Health, Agriculture and Water Resources, just to name a few. It would take me the whole evening to outline all the projects which your country has implemented not only in Saint Lucia, but also in the other member states of the OECS.”

The Prime Minister gave assurances that the bond between Saint Lucia and Mexico will continue to grow and deepen. He pointed to opportunities for further collaboration, not only in economic sectors such as tourism but also in cultural exchanges that may serve to reinforce the bonds between the two countries.
