BARBADOS NATION:-DESPITE THE DANGERS of marijuana use, many Barbadians are sending health warnings up in smoke.
That concern came from the acting director of the Psychiatric Hospital David Leacock, who said that Barbadians appear to view the illegal substance as more socially acceptable.
Leacock noted that a recent report from the National Council on Substance Abuse also proved that marijuana use had become more widespread.
This, he said, was a concern because drugs could be linked to mental health issues. He said the popularity of the drug posed challenges to treatment. “… As a society we are becoming a bit more tolerant of substance abuse use.
For example, marijuana is now a topical issue where persons are thinking about legalising it. It is not being seen as not traumatic or damaging as perhaps alcohol or even cocaine.
