PRESS RELEASE:-Castries, Saint Lucia. September 19, 2016: The Department of Local Government, Culture and Creative Industries is saddened to learn of the death of veteran drummer/percussionist, Rudy Auguste.
Rudy died at his home in the Dennery Valley last week.
A well-known face on the musical scene with his characteristic toothpick, Rudy who began his formal career with a small group then known as the “Firebirds”, may be better remembered for his work with the Tru Tones.
His career spanned some forty years during which he worked with the who’s who on Saint Lucia’s music landscape. With headliners such as Night Train, Nu Sonics, Luther Francois, Chapter 8, Graduates, Mad Monks, Third Eye, Equinox and Pan Sonic Steel Orchestra; his last collaboration being with Fifth Degree.
He was a versatile drummer crossing the genres from pop to calypso to jazz and all the in-betweens, and with recorded tracks such as the Night Train’s “Making Tracks”, Rudy’s musical journey is sure to be remembered for years to come.
His discipline and professionalism towards his music meant his skills were in high demand by his fellow musicians. Such an attitude also made him an example for musicians both present and future to follow.
“His music will live on through his music which warms our hearts on every occasion it is played.” observed the Minister responsible for The Department of Local Government, Culture and Creative Industries Senator The Hon Mrs. Fortuna Belrose.
The Department of Local Government, Culture and Creative Industries extends its condolences to his wife, and their four children and the musical and cultural fraternities.
