Acting PM Says Businesses to Close at 12PM Today

Acting Prime Minister Hon. Lenard Montoute has advised that business houses close at noon on Sep. 28.

Minister Montoute’s announcement follows a statement made yesterday, that all schools remain closed due to the approaching weather system.

“The center of the approaching weather system is expected to pass over Saint Lucia sometime after midday today, Wednesday, Sep. 28. With the passage of this weather system, we expect heavy rains, high winds, thunder and lightning.

“Consequently, I have advised that business houses be closed at 12 noon to facilitate workers and patrons in getting home before the worst of the weather. We ask that all citizens exercise caution, especially those in flood prone areas, and take every measure necessary to protect life and property.

“Please take heed to all advisories issued by the Met Office and NEMO. Thank you and God bless you.”

Citizens are urged to continue monitoring the system and to listen to official updates from NEMO and the MET Office.

This is idiotic. Why would you make this announcement the day of the storm instead of YESTERDAY when people needed to make arrangements for what to do with their kids. What purpose does this 12pm closure serve. You are effectively putting everyone in danger by encouraging both workers and customers to leave their homes. People should have been told to stay home and out of harm’s way from YESTERDAY .

No dummy. We live in too much of an advanced world to accept mediocrity. There is no better late than sorry when you are placing people’s lives in danger. UNACCEPTABLE!

Agree totally. We should have learnt from the Chrismas Eve though when so many people were stranded and couldn’t get home. Actually it should be ‘better safe than sorry!’ I stayed home!
