The Met Office has said that no all clear will be issued for Saint Lucia tonight as Tropical Storm Matthew pounded the Island with heavy rains and intermittent gusts of wind.
A Met Office spokesperson joined the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) this evening in urging citizens to stay indoors.
The RSLPF made a special appeal to motorists.
It said due to the constant downpour, bridges are becoming impassable and may be unstable, especially in Malgretout, Micoud and other Southern communities.
The Met Office spokesperson told the Times that it has been observed earlier in the day that some persons were on the beach at Vigie, where the average height of the waves was some thirteen feet before the winds increased.
The maximum wave height has so far reached over twenty feet, the Times was informed.
At about 6:55 pm this evening, residents of Micoud reported that the community had been plunged into darkness due to a power outage.
Parts of Castries and its environs were also without electricity.
