Schools will reopen on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, the Ministry of Education has announced.
The decision follows a meeting this afternoon chaired by Acting Prime Minister, Lanard Montoute, an Education Ministry official told the Times.
The official however called on all teachers and Principals to report to class on Friday September 30, 2016, to ensure that schools were ready for the resumption of classes on Tuesday.
The official explained that in some schools in low lying areas, equipment and furniture had to be relocated to higher elevations to protect against flood damage that was anticipated as a result of the passage of Tropical Storm Matthew.
The equipment and furniture would have to be put back in some cases and some school premises may have to be tidied up, it was observed.
Damage to schools was however reported to be minimal.
